EXILES from EDEN

Were their sins so great as to deserve this rejection? You be the judge. Exclusion, Reorientation, Renewal, Romance and Love this was the process that Myles and Josephine had to endure, and endure separately, at least until they actually met. It was not easy, in fact, it was a long and arduous process of regaining self-confidence, meeting new people and assessing whether they would be friends or otherwise, at the same time reassessing their own faith and setting for themselves a satisfactory pathway ahead. Myles Carrington is an intelligent and diligent youth who questions the sect’s Ministry and eventually sets himself to leave once he can support himself. Josephine, personable and now confidant to her mother, is troubled by the pressure to marry young and realises that all is not as rosy as is made out. Here were two young people who did not know each other, who came from different parishes, were different in age and were exiled from the sect Fellowship for different reasons, struggling with the same sense of rejection, aloneness and lack of clear direction. The book details how they left, why, what they discovered, what they did with their time, what kind of people they met up with and how they related to one another when they did meet. It covers their spiritual journeys and their ultimate romance but will they truly be able to overcome all the difficulties? So, dear reader, this book may challenge your own faith or belief system or, on the other hand, may strengthen them, as you follow the journeys these two undertake. Hopefully, it will, with its great ending, enthral you with the romance of these two remarkable young people.                .  .  .  .  .

EXILES from EDEN

A little FORTITUDE

This engrossing story is set in the 1950s in Newcastle, NSW, Australia and is based upon the memoirs of one of four girls, Alyss Gordon, now seventy years of age.

With the benefit of age, she objectively describes her troubled childhood and her, and her sisters’ experiences in a way that will likely touch the reader’s heart.

How Alyss struggled with her memories of the father she loved, Ross Gordon, strong and loving sober, cruel and violent when drunk.

From an early age, Alyss discovered the need for personal integrity and fortitude, the refusal to be vanquished. However, with all decisions being made about her and for her by others, will these traits be sufficient to keep her safe during the years following the death of their mother?

Her story, encompassing her whole family and all that befell them and how they struggled to survive at this pivotal time in Australia, will inspire the reader to follow the narrative right to the end.                                     .  .  .  .  .

Resilience tried and Tested

Chapter 1: Read now…

RESILIENCE tried and tested

This book Continues the story of the Gordon Girls-and of Alyss in particular-as they approach their teens.

After the court case in which they are placed under the guardianship of the State (i.e. the Government of New South Wales), they live under the foster care of their deceased mother’s sisters. They are split up, their experiences varied, some good, some very bad, and for some of them it involved living within a strict religious sect.

Joyce and Eleanor must experience Aunt Iris’s misguided “Commission from the Lord”, which she applied in a strict, bigoted way; Sue was taken by the Peters as a longed-for daughter to be “spoiled”. Alyss in contrast is fostered by Aunt May as little more than a nuisance appendage to keep up appearances.

None of the girls had previously met their foster-caring aunts and had no idea of how demanding and dominating were their personalities , especially the religiously bigoted Aunt Iris. Only turbulent years could follow.

Through all of this, could they maintain their own strong personalities?

Can their resilience be maintained?

Only time would tell.

Be reminded of the resources and utensils used in that era and how Aunt Iris enforced their use. How different from what we experience today.

It is a fascinating and enlightening story, quite likely different from any other you, the reader has experienced. Those who have read it highly recommend it to their friends.

Please continue to Book 3 “HOPE Embraced”. It takes the story through the girls adulthood and highlights the character of Alyss, the ultimate overcomer.

HOPE Embraced

Chapter 1:    Read now…

HOPE Embraced

The Gordon Girls have certainly shown their fortitude and resilience as seen in volumes I and II. Now they face the daunting prospect of becoming adults released from former restraints. How will they deal with that?

This volume completes the story of those girls. Readers of the first two books will be familiar with the difference in personalities of these four strong-minded girls and can speculate on how they will handle their freedom.

We see Joyce embracing the sect and marrying within it, Eleanor resisting its tenets and rules and giving in to temptation, Deidre the dependent one, following the ever-guiding hand of the Aunt who “spoiled” her and Alyss, who could bear the restrictive life no longer, taking off to make her own way. What a surprise was in store for her!

Watch as these four young women with very different ideals and value systems, having finally achieved freedom from State guardianship and now able to choose for themselves, develop into adulthood and make life choices that set in train their future pathways. Learn how their stories develop and how this plays out for each of them.

The reader will find this volume well written, easy to read yet engrossing until the very end.

BCNW 200x300

This small volume is an accompaniment to “RESILIENCE Tried and Tested”  “BCNW” is about the sect seen from the perspective of young Alyss. As well as being explanatory, it contains some amusing interludes where Alyss Gordon, at only ten years of age, tries to adapt to its ways, so different from what she had grown up with in the Presbyterian Church.

Her later comments were that, although all-encompassing and restrictive, and at times hurtful, there were many good things about it which she missed after she had left, as a young woman. She did indeed miss some of the lovely people she came to know and love there, but overall it was too much confinement for her. She just had to go.
